How to list on Poshmark and turn likes into sales
Poshmark is a closet, not a search box: buyers browse, share and send offers. A clean listing with measurements gets likes, and likes get you an Offer to Likers sale. The listing form is short, so every field you leave empty costs you.
Create the listing
- Open the form. In the app tap the camera button → Sell. Take or pick the photos there — the first one becomes the cover in feeds and search.
- Cover shot first. Flat-lay or on a hanger against a plain background, item filling the frame. Add label, detail, flaw and measurement shots after it.
- Title (80 characters). Brand + item + the searchable detail + size word. Example: Madewell High Rise Straight Jeans 25 Dark Indigo — brand and style up front, because Poshmark search reads the title first.
- Description. Condition in plain words, then measurements (pit-to-pit, length, waist flat, inseam), then flaws, then smoke/pet notes if relevant. Measurements stop the "what size does it run?" messages that delay sales.
- Category and department. Pick the category, then the department (Women, Men, Kids). Both drive browse and search filters.
- Brand. Choose from Poshmark's brand list — the brand field is a filter, so a title-only brand does not count. If your brand is missing, use the closest generic option rather than forcing a wrong one.
- Size, colour, condition. Size with the right unit (and One Size where true), every colour that applies, and the honest condition grade.
- Original price and list price. The original price powers the discount badge; set it to what you actually paid if you know it. Set the list price above what you would accept — offers are coming.
- Publish, then share. Share the listing to your followers and to a relevant party. Share again over the following days; fresh shares are what keeps the item visible.
Title limit and how Poshmark surfaces listings
| Part of the listing | What it does for you |
|---|---|
| Title (80 chars) | Main search match: brand, item type and detail words. No hashtag syntax needed here. |
| Brand / category / size | Structured filters — buyers narrow by these before they read a word. |
| Description | Secondary match, plus it answers fit questions and pre-empts returns. |
| Shares | The main visibility lever: each share puts the item in front of your followers and into feeds. |
| Price drops and offers | Offer to Likers pushes a notification straight to everyone who liked the item. |
Auto-sharers and bots are against Poshmark's rules and put the closet at risk — share by hand or from the drafts you generate, and keep it to a few minutes a day.
What Poshmark charges
| Sale price | US seller fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Under $15 | $2.95 flat | Same fee whether you sell at $5 or $14.99. |
| $15 and above | 20% | Covers payment processing — no separate processing charge on the payout. |
| Listing | Free | No listing fee and no monthly fee to run a closet. |
| Shipping label | Buyer pays | Unless you include shipping in an offer or run a shipping promotion. |
The $2.95-under-$15 rule is exactly why a $14 item and a $16 item do not pay the same cut. Check any price change against the fee take-home calculator, and confirm the current rate on your own sale screen — regional terms differ.
Photos and the closet look
- Daylight, plain background, item filling the frame. Poshmark's feed crops hard, so nothing important in the corners.
- Shot order: cover, back, label with brand and size, fabric detail, flaws, measurement.
- No watermarks, borders or brand stock images — Poshmark moderates those and can remove the listing.
- Consistency across your closet: same background on every listing makes the grid look like a shop, which is what gets followers to browse.
- Video is available in the app — a short clip of the drape, print or hardware answers questions photos cannot.
Shipping on Poshmark
- Buyer pays the shipping label by default; Poshmark issues you a prepaid label after the sale.
- The US label is a flat rate that covers a parcel up to a set weight (the standard tier covers up to 5 lb) — the app shows the current rate and the limits when you ship.
- Pack it yourself: poly mailer or box, item clean and dry, no old labels or barcodes showing. The label is scanned as-is, so a torn or taped-over barcode delays the parcel.
- Track the ship-by date shown on the sale. Late shipping slows your payouts and hurts your closet's standing.
- Bundles ship as one parcel for one label — that is how you sell three items to one buyer without triple postage.
- Offers can include a shipping discount; Poshmark shows the discount options when you send Offer to Likers. Use it when the buyer is close but not biting.

Common Poshmark mistakes
- No measurements. Fit uncertainty is the number-one reason a like never becomes a sale.
- Never sharing. A closet that is not shared does not exist in the feed, however good the price is.
- Brand missing from the brand field — you drop out of the filter buyers use first.
- Price set at the number you want, with no room for the offer every buyer sends. You then counter awkwardly or lose them.
- Ignoring likes. Offer to Likers exists for exactly this moment; an offer converts far better than waiting.
- Stock photos for used clothing. They get removed, and the relist loses its likes.
- Shipping slower than the ship-by date, or a parcel that arrives creased because it went in a soft mailer without tissue.
One-tap copy: paste into Poshmark
Edit in place, tap Copy, paste into the Poshmark listing form. The counter tracks the 80-character title limit. Worked example for a pair of Madewell jeans — swap in your brand, size, measurements and flaws.
poshmark:// opens the Poshmark app when it is installed (iOS; the bare scheme is not registered on every Android device). Listing is app-only, so if the link does not open, launch Poshmark from your home screen and paste the copied fields there.
